Know Your Bible by Correspondence
In past KYB by Correspondence (KYBC) articles, have focused on stories from students and their reasons for choosing to do KYB studies by correspondence, (which are many and varied), rather than attending a KYB group. This time I would like to share a few thoughts on some of the blessings that mentors experience as they share and relate to their students through their studies and various means of communication.
The mentor/student relationship often becomes more than just a Bible teacher and Bible student relationship. As time progresses and we get to know each other, we become friends who share family news, the ups and downs of life, our spiritual journeys and we support and encourage each other through prayer. Some mentors have even had the privilege of meeting up with their students in person when they have been travelling and have expressed what a joy it is to be able to “put a face to the name” from an email or a letter.
Sometimes when a student’s life gets too busy or she is going through a difficult time, and needs to take time off from KYB studies, our mentors consider it a privilege to be able to patiently support her in prayer and send the periodical letter or card of encouragement, until she is ready and able to resume. Some have exchanged phone numbers and a friendly voice on the other end of a call can be a comfort to some, especially if they are experiencing some sort of isolation from family and friends.
Our online video mentors have the extra blessing of being able to see their students face to face and share more freely and instantaneously with them. If there is a point that needs clarifying, it can be done there and then instead of waiting for a reply to a letter or email. If you want to discuss an issue further, it can be addressed straight away and get immediate resolution. And there is always the opportunity just to have a “nice chat” and share recent news or a current spiritual blessing.
So, if you are not able to attend a KYB group meeting, why not try doing your KYB studies with us by post, email or online video with one of our lovely mentors? We would love to share your journey with the Lord alongside you.
