Melanesia News

What a busy few months it has been for CWCI Australia’s ministry to Melanesia!

At the end of May, Country Advisor for Vanuatu, Jacqui, travelled to Port Vila to train women leaders of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union in the “how to” of Know Your Bible (KYB). She took some Bislama updated KYB study books with her. Just as she was leaving the airline she was booked to travel with went into liquidation. Fortunately, she was able to rebook her flights on another airline and continue with her schedule. There were 80 leaders at the training.

In June, Solomon Islands Country Advisor, Machi, travelled to Honiara to take workshops with the Mothers Union Church of Melanesia women for the first time. She held two workshops over two days, leaving KYB study books for their use. There were 90 women present. The Local Executive from the Solomon Islands assisted her, and there was time for a business meeting while she was there.  Machi had intended to continue to Isabel Island but had a bad fall which needed medical attention. This forced an early return home. She is now fine, but deeply bruised.

Machi has now been invited to return to Honiara in late August for a Church of Melanesia whole region conference (Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Torres Strait) to repeat the workshops. At the time of writing, she hopes to go. Please pray that Machi will have safe travels and a good response to her presentation of the KYB workshops at the conference.

And then in July, Country Advisor for PNG, Elaine, travelled to Port Moresby to meet with the Local Executive. They had a fruitful time together, with discussions about establishing new KYB groups in different churches and in some cases different areas away from Moresby. There are plans for more groups to start.

Please pray for the continued growth of CWCI Australia’s ministry to Melanesia and God’s wonderful women who facilitate it.
