Inspiring us to grow in Christ

It was with excitement that Tropical Regional Board planned our first ever online convention. Nothing can replace meeting together and sharing fellowship in person but, in this year of cancelled conventions and safaris, we longed to bring encouragement to our sisters in Christ.

Many of us learned to use technology in ways we have never done before and so we hoped that ladies would find a way to join us via Zoom, as our speaker shared with us encouragement from God’s word. The response was so exciting, as emails came in, not only from our region, (north Queensland and Northern Territory), but from other parts of QLD, as well as New South Wales and Victoria. It seemed that ladies were hungry to learn more from God’s Word and to fellowship together, in whatever way was possible.

On the morning of 15th August, we watched as faces appeared on the screen, full of anticipation.

What a joy it was to hear friends greet one another, who had been separated by time and place, but were able to reconnect in this way! Some joined from their home as individuals; and some gathered in homes and church buildings, to share fellowship, with appropriate distancing, of course.

The inspiring messages were titled ‘Just turn up’ and ‘Be all in’. We learned, from Ezekiel, how we must wade into all that God has for us, until we are out of our depth, so that He can truly use us in His service. Only then will our calling as Christians be fulfilled. What a challenge!

After each session, we broke into small discussion groups, using the ‘breakout room’ facility. There were discussion topics to help us delve deeper into how the messages might be applied to our daily lives.   As is traditional, there was a short break for morning tea, when many ladies continued to chat to friends, new and old, in their ‘virtual’ rooms.

We have learned so much from this experience and, from what was said by those who joined from other regions, it seems that others might well start planning their own version of an online convention!
